Your birthday is your special day. It’s your time to relax, be celebrated, and get presents! Growing up I didn’t receive a lot of presents since we didn’t have a lot of money. One of my youngest birthday memories is getting the Burger King coupon in the mail for a free kids meal. It made my day every year. But now we live in a world of member perks. I was curious if I could somehow sign up for the same Burger King birthday meal as an adult and it now comes in the form of joining their “Royal Perks” and downloading their app. Something that I’m not really interested in since I do not frequent Burger King.

It did get me thinking about other birthday perks,  like places that offer birthday specials or discounts. I make sure to grab a free drink at Starbucks and a sweet treat from Tea & Crepe on my birthday. In Grand Forks, we have so many small businesses that I would rather support than large corporations. So I made a few calls and found some local businesses that offer some amazing birthday discounts in Grand Forks!

A minimum requirement for a great birthday is a birthday meal! If you’re blessed with amazing friends or have family nearby, you might have somebody make you a meal for your birthday. And everyone knows that a free meal automatically tastes five times better. Although, if the friend group or the family is planning on taking you out to eat, here’s a few places that will give you a birthday special:

Personally, I’ve never been a cake type of person. I like my treats not too sweet and sometimes cake can be overwhelming. Luckily, there are plenty of other sweet treats that I can munch on. Here are some local places that offer sweet birthday discounts in Grand Forks.

• One of the first birthday discounts in Grand Forks I knew about was Tea and Crepe. If you go in on your birthday, buy anything, and show them your ID, they with give you a card for any free item the next time you visit.
• Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea has a perks member system that gets you a free drink of any size on your birthday. All you have to do to sign up is give them your phone number when you buy a drink or a sweet treat.
• Wired Bean offers a similar birthday discount. If you sign up for their rewards system with your phone number, you get $10 off any drink during your birthday month.

There are not many special occasions where you get the chance to dress up. A few business dinners, holiday parties, or the annual Feast of Nations celebration are great chances to doll yourself up and flaunt your best outfit. Personally, I try to practice dressing up for myself more frequently, starting with my birthday. It’s great for self-image and self-esteem, but not super great for the wallet some days. Luckily, I found a few boutiques that offer birthday discounts in Grand Forks.
