New Places in Grand Forks: Career Impact Academy

What if you could earn industry certifications while you were still in high school? What if you could explore careers instead of blindly jumping into a college degree course? Students throughout Grand Forks County now have that opportunity thanks to the 50,000 square foot Career Impact Academy which just opened its doors to its first semester of high schoolers. With programs in building trades, culinary arts, automotive, aviation and uncrewed systems, engineering, computer science, and health careers, the future for the next generation of Grand Forksians looks pretty bright.

New Places in Grand Forks: Meg-A-Latte & 7 Brew Coffee

Since North Dakota was officially named the hardest-working state for the third year in a row, there’s no doubt that we need a healthy dose of caffeine to jump start our Midwestern days. Two new coffee shops just opened on 32nd Ave in the south end. Warm up fireside in Meg-A-Latte’s cozy corners with a hot cocoa or steamy vanilla latte. The mid-century mod design creates the perfect space for a meetup with friends or a study sesh. If pure positivity is your vibe, check out 7 Brew Coffee. This chain marks their cups with uplifting sayings and even pays it back to their local patrons by giving away $500 and a free year of coffee to community heroes every month. Now that’s what we call a caffeine high.

New Activities in Grand Forks: Fool’s Brigade Improv Troupe

They say laughter is the best medicine, but even if you’re not sick you should check out the brand new troupe of improv comedy professionals taking center stage at the Fire Hall Theatre. If you fancy yourself a comedian, the crew also offers improv jam sessions, which are performances where the whole audience can get on stage and participate in pre-planned games. Led by Halloweentown star J. Paul Zimmerman, this crew of uproarious jokesters will leave you in stitches. (Hmm… maybe laughter is not the best medicine after all?). For show times, follow the Fire Hall Theatre’s Facebook page.
