The word “Spring” is not just a season around the Grand Forks Region; it is an adventurous mini game of unpredictable settings! Here is everything that you will need in your Grand Forks Spring Starter Pack – because there is nothing better than the first signs of spring in the Midwest.

1. Spring Starter Pack in Grand Forks: Extra Clothes!
Layer now, thank yourself later! Light jackets and hoodies are fantastic for those cooler mornings in Grand Forks. The sun is shining but the breeze still bites, so you will need these extra layers while strolling through the downtown boutiques and shops. Here are a few of my favorite boutiques and shops downtown Grand Forks: The Silo Boutique, Pretty B, RH Standard, Halberstadt’s, Urban Stampede, and Widman’s Candy Shop. Gloves and a baseball hat or beanie come in handy on windy walk along the Greenway or cheering on your favorite high school team. Do not forget to grab your sunglasses, a definite must for soaking up the sunshine on the patios for lunch (see my first article😊). Keep a pair of rain boots, rain jacket and umbrella nearby in case the weather takes a turn. Grand Forks is very flat, so I suggest wearing your rain boots from the get-go! If you want to take one thing away from this article, this is what to remember and will save you money: SAVE YOUR WHITE SHOES FOR SUMMER!

2. Spring Starter Pack in Grand Forks: What to Keep in Your Car
Take my advice after living here for six years and create a bin in your trunk for all your favorite activities. For your first set of items, have a waterproof picnic blanket in case the ground is still damp, a hammock to lounge in at Lincoln Park, a portable speaker to listen to your favorite jams, and a camera to bird watch or explore the floral gardens.
For y your next set of items, any sports gear. I love to go frisbee golfing at Bob Zavoral Memorial Park in East Grand Forks, a quick 12 hole round. For any runners out there, put your shoes in the bin! There are a ton of running routes already set around town. I have started playing pickleball in the past year, so that is always in my bin. Here are some spots around town to play pickleball: Symington Park, Abbott Sports Complex, or PlayIT, which is indoors.
Some other items that might be in your bin is gear for volleyball, basketball, softball, etc. Grand Forks has some great sports complexes to support any need. I have tried rollerblading in the past and it did not go so well, but it’s always worth a try! That’s one activity that I hope you will give a roll at. You will be wheel-y ready for anything.

3. Spring Starter Pack in Grand Forks: Emergency Kits
From achoo to woohoo! This isn’t the typical emergency kit you are thinking about. Put together a bag of these spring essentials: ChapStick, sunscreen (yes, I said sunscreen, we have been inside for far too long HAHA), and most importantly allergy medications. Obviously, you must have snacks in case you get hungry. Watch out if you keep any drinks in the car, they could snap, crackle, and pop! Shout out to Hugo’s to supply your snacks and beverages!

4. Spring Starter Pack in Grand Forks: Cabin Cleaners
It is that time of year when you must get the cabin ready for summer! Scrub the shack to kick back. Items you do not want to forget are a broom, a wash rag and bucket, household cleaners, a mop, just to start. I did not grow up around the area, but my family had a camper on the lake in Minnesota. I remember those first days of spring, and my father dragging me and my sisters out of bed to pick up sticks, pull weeds on the shoreline, and helping our mom in the camper. Items my family used at the lake: rakes, weeding gloves, garbage bags, fire starters, and waiters to get the dock out. It is the same for Grand Forks, but maybe a little longer of a drive. As soon as the sun starts to shine, the Grand Forks folks head out to lake country. Everyone likes their cabin clean and shore tidy so do not forget these items in your bin.

Spring Starter Pack in Grand Forks: The Wrap Up
As the snow melts and the sun finally sticks around, spring in the Grand Forks region becomes less about the weather and more about the adventure. Embrace the unpredictability, lean into the fresh air, and make the most of every sunny (and slightly muddy) moment. So, layer up, gear up, and show up – the sun does not wait, and neither should you!
