Cooler Conversations
a Q&A with an amazingly cool community-minded software engineer.
How did you come to live in greater Grand Forks?
I’m a Grand Forks native, but I didn’t always think I’d live here as an adult. During and after college I lived in Washington, D.C., Iowa, and even Norway for a while. I moved back here in 2017 when more opportunities in my field (software engineering) became available.
Cooler Fact about yourself?
I used to teach guitar lessons here in town (I miss that job!).
What are the things you like most about daily life in greater Grand Forks?
I like the feeling of community Grand Forks offers. Passionate people keep the Greater Grand Forks area thriving, and anyone can jump in and make an impact if they want to. I also love that wherever you go, even if it’s 20 below outside, people are smiling, greeting each other, and helping one another out.
Fave Forks activities?
The Greenway Takeover Festival is my new favorite thing here in town, I schedule the end of my summer around it each year. I also highly appreciate family-friendly places like Half Brothers, Rhombus Brewery, and Up North where parents can have a night out with kids in tow!
What would you tell someone who is considering living here?
In my opinion, Grand Forks offers everything I want and need – an affordable and safe community, entertainment (music/theater/sports/dining/breweries/and more), employment opportunities, friendly people, and short commutes! I’ve lived around the country and the world, and couldn’t be happier I’m here now.
What’s the best kept secret in greater Grand Forks?
Concerts in the Garden at the UND Museum of Art! Maybe not a “secret”, but I feel like not enough people are aware of this great outdoor concert series right in our backyard during the summer.
