Best Commute Times in the US:
Rush Hour (or not)

With one of the best commutes in the U.S., our “rush hour” is measured in minutes – not hours. Whether you choose to live in the heart of the city of Grand Forks, or one of our surrounding communities, our drive time averages about 14 minutes.

Some days you might wish for your drive to take a little longer so you can savor your coffee and enjoy our breathtaking North Dakota sunrises.

If you like to get places without hopping in your car, you can ride your bike, walk, take a bus, or use your favorite app to get a ride! Traveling out of the area is a breeze, too. Connect easily by train, plane, or automobile.

5 Reasons our Commutes are Cooler

  • Quality of life is back: Spending less time commuting from point A to B means more time doing what you enjoy.
  • No white knuckles: You’ll quickly learn how to relax that clenched fist. Less traffic means less stress. The most common hand gesture in greater Grand Forks is a friendly wave.
  • Within reach: We aren’t bragging – we really do have one of the best commutes in the U.S.! When we say 14 minutes or less, we mean it! Everything you need is just a short distance away. Shopping centers? 14 minutes or less. Downtown nightlife and eateries. 14 minutes. Art venues, theaters, and live music? Four. Teen. Min. Utes.
  • Bike, bike baby: Does your city have a paved path for biking, walking, rollerblading or running that stretches 21 miles through its heart? Ours does. If you’re looking for a healthier commute, the Greenway of Greater Grand Forks has you covered.
  • Plane but not ugly: The Grand Forks International Airport is one of the top 25 airports in the U.S. for takeoffs, but we promise it will take you 25 minutes or less to get through security. Become a world traveler with ease!
